The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided in its meeting on Thursday the 11th of December 2008, to grant the International Floorball Federation (IFF) the provisional IOC recognition.
“The Recognition of the IOC, that we have received today, is a very important milestone for Floorball, opening doors for Floorball in a number of countries, where it before has been hard to enter into the sports community. This however is just the start of a long journey and will help us further to develop our sport, aiming to fulfil all the criteria’s stipulated by the IOC, to one day have a product which is equal in both quantity and quality to the sports of the Olympic Games,” says Mr. Tomas Eriksson, IFF President.

I'm looking for historical information on Floorball in Australia, as far back as I can possibly get it. Specifically stuff like results of AFA sanctioned events, photos, news articles/press releases and information on national teams... but I'll take anything I can get.

Saturday 12th October saw teams from NSW, ACT and Vic along with some players from QLD (playing with Newcastle Cobras) travel to Dural, NSW to compete in the 3rd Northern Beaches Open, organised once again by the Northern Beaches Stingrays Floorball Club. This tournament was originally organised by Reto Wolf, who this time around enlisted Stefan Engsall and Scott Collins to be the main tournament organisers.
The venue was the Dural Sports & Leisure Centre and I'm sure everyone appreciated the facility and all it offered. Good courts, good stands, ample changerooms and a very nice canteen made it a comfortable place for us all.
The mens' fixture was full on, and despite the tight timing games ran very smoothly with few delays. The games were of a good standard, with very few issues, showing once again how much floorball has improved at this level over the years. Good to see so many strong teams taking part.
According to a Finnish research a neuromuscular training programme was effective in preventing acute non-contact injuries of the legs in female floorball players.
The research was made in the UKK Institute for Health Promotion Research and the fresh research is published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (10/2008) . The researcher, Kati Pasanen, was in charge of the research in which 28 women´s top level floorball teams participated. Half of the players were randomly selected to the intervention group for six months and the rest were in the control group.
The intervention group team exercised running technique, balance and body control, plyometrics and strength during the warm up sessions. The programme was designed to enhance players´ motor skills and body control as well as to activate and prepare the neuromuscular system for sports specific manoeuvres. The main point of each exercise was to focus on proper technique such as good posture, neutral zoning of lumbar spine, core stability, and positioning of the hip and knee, especially "knee-over-toe".
The result was that during the season, 72 acute non-contact leg injuries occurred, 20 in the intervention group and 52 in the control group. The injury incidence per 1000 hours playing and practice in the intervention group was 0.65 and in the control group was 2.08. The risk of non-contact leg injury was 66% lower in the intervention group.
Three matches from the EFT played in Kuopio, Finland, 31st of October - 2nd of November, will be shown live on the Finnish Floorballa Magazine´s paakallo.fi website, in cooperation with Floobs company.
Two Men´s matches, Finland vs. Switzerland and Czech Republic vs. Finland, plus one Men´s Under 19 match, Finland U19 - Sweden U19, can be followed live on the web.
It is with great pleasure that the Australian Floorball Association announces it has received recognition from the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) as the National Sporting Organisation for Floorball in Australia.
In brief this means that Floorball in Australia has access to the resources of ASC including information resources, coaching and administration programmes, use of the ASC logo and funding for the sport. Over the next few weeks further details will be obtained as to what this means to the Floorball community in Australia and we will advise as this information is gathered.
This is the beginning of a new era for floorball in Australia and the AFA would like to take this opportunity to thank Renato Orlando and John Liljelund from IFF for their help and all those involved with putting the application together.
Best regards,
Barbara Summers President Australian Floorball Association
